This Is Why I'm Single

I meant to hold off on yesterday's post so that I could post this today. But I kind of forgot... So hey, special bonus Valentines Day post!

Like many people on the interest, I have spent another Valentines Day alone. Kind of. I was at work, and the atmosphere was actually pretty good. I'm not one of those bitter people that complain about how the day is all about making money. Because sometimes society needs a day to just show their appreciation for other human beings.

Moving on, I think it would be interesting to examine why I have been single my whole life. *Warning* Bragging may ensue

Pros
1) I'm not ugly! I hope. I'm average. I'm not going to tear myself down and state everything that I think is ugly about myself. Because honestly, I think I'm pretty average. I'm not severely overweight, but then I'm skinnier than what I would consider beautiful. My hair never really looks good and my skin is never perfectly clear.

2) I'm not one of those girls that spends an hour in the morning doing my hair and putting make up on. I wash my hair in the morning and get dressed, that's pretty much it for five out of seven days of the week. In fact, there's only really one day I ever really wear make up.

3) I play video games. And not even to the point where it's disturbing or off putting. I love Nintendo games, but I'm willing to try more hard core games... as long as someone teaches me. I can be competitive, but I'm actually pretty laid back when it comes to gaming.

4) I love nerdy thing! Depending on the guy, I think that's a turn on... right? I would be more than happy to have a Lord of the Rings marathon. And I hate chick flicks. I would never force a guy to sit through a movie like that.

5) I'm not very romantic, and wouldn't require any guy to be either. I think humour and friendship would have to be the base of any relationship.

6) I like to think I have a good sense of fashion, without resorting to being slutty. I would call my clothing elegant, and sometimes nerdy and lazy.

7) I like rock music. I hate the modern pop that's always on the radio these days, with a few exceptions. But my ipad is full of rock (and a bit of Disney). Seriously, I didn't even know hot to pronounce Adele's name until last year (and I still pronounce it wrong...). That's how little I care about that music.

8) My parents are awesome. I'm pretty sure my dad is more eager for me to get a boyfriend than I am. There would be no worries about me introducing anyone to them. Ask anyone. My parents are just the best.

9) I'm not clingy... I don't think. In fact, I like space. Not to mention I don't really have time for a social life of any sort... I think that's a con actually...

10) I'm entertaining... maybe? I really do hope this is a true fact...

Cons
1) I have pretty much no boobs. Yup. Apparently that's important?

2) I'm not a tall blonde, blue eyed wonder. I don't even have long hair. I have greenish eyes, if that helps...

3) I might love my book collection more than anything else in the world...

4) I don't know how to relationship. Which is why I would need something based on friendship rather than romance. I just don't know how.

5) You pretty much need to have a good grasp of the English language, including punctuation and capitalization. Text talk won't fly with me.

So I've come to the conclusion that I'm still single because I'm just too amazing. People are nervous of me or something.

Fancy Words for Idiots

Hey guys! My mind was doing some wandering a few days ago, and a few fancy words popped into my head. Now I've been told that when I write, my 'voice' because rather formal, or fancy. For example, I used the word 'rather' instead of 'kinda.' I don't fall into text talk or anything of the sort, not even while texting. However, my generation and newer generations have unfortunately limited their vocabulary to the very basics. So let's start up 'Fancy words for Idiots'!

Dear Diary,

Best. Day. Ever! I'm writing this entry from space. From SPACE! I know, right? The ride up was amazing. Kind of bumpy, like a roller coaster, but it was fun. Everyone else gave me crazy looks when I raised my hands and started laughing. Jeeze, they really need to loosen up. Now that we're up here, I'm having so much fun. I got someone to film me 'swimming' in air. It was hilarious. I posted it on Facebook and got a ton of likes. Oh, and the view! Who knew that the Earth has phases, just like the moon. And the sky is so dark, all the time. It's like permanent night. But it's day. I think. Oh it's too confusing. I'm going to go eat food out of the air then do some gymnastics. I can't wait for tomorrow! I'll never get tired of this! Never ever ever!

Happy List Part 2

I did one of these lists a while ago as part of a small writing exercise, and I'm going to make another one. Because if you think about what makes you happy, then you will be happy, right?

-Being told you're doing a good job while by yourself during a busy time at work
-Any sort of cold beverage when you're really thirsty
-That moment when your nose unclogs during a bad cold (especially after a sneeze)
-Getting into a hot shower when you wake up sick
-Walking into an air conditioned building when it's hot outside
-That sudden drop on a roller coaster when you become air born and the only thing keeping you in the seat is a small seat belt
-Playing a new video game for the first time (and not being terrible at it)
-When you walk into a book store and just feel like you belong (or any store that strikes your fancy)
-When that book (or movie/CD) that you've been waiting ages for finally comes out
-Finding something that suits you perfectly and instantly falling in love with it
-Finding out that that thing you fell in love with is reasonably priced.
-Seeing your name published in a book
-That feeling of excitement before a big trip, when you can't sleep despite having to wake up early the next morning
-When you're left home by yourself for more than two days, and realizing you're more responsible than you originally thought.
-When your parents come home after a week of vacation and you don't have to be so responsible any more (and the dog stops howling and whining at two in the morning)
-When you get a day off work, and more than one friend also happens to have that same day off
-Finding someone who shares to same love of an author/book series/movie
-When you favourite author gets and award for a book, and for some reason you feel honoured just because you've read that same book

A Work Fatigued Mind

About a week ago I posted something about what typically goes on in my mind. Now I thought you would get some entertainment from knowing what goes through my mind at work.

1) I'm hungry. Why am I hungry? I just ate at nine this morning. I wonder what time is is now. Holy shit, it's two.

2) I work in a grocery store and I still can't find some food to eat. Guess it's cheese buns again!

3) Ooh! New person! That means new friend material... Damn, the new person barely talks... Well this is awkward. I'll just go clean this thing...

4) Why do people keep thinking our sugar bin is a garbage can? *sob*

5) I should learn to swear in another language... I wonder if my dad will teach me some in Swedish.

6) Is that a wasp? Shit, that's a wasp. Shit shit shit shit shit... Okay, act calm. Shit, where'd it go? Can I get a manager to get rid of it? AAAH! There it is. Get away get away get away! Help? *sob*

7) It's three minutes to nine, why do you want coffee? *sob*

8) Damn this buggy is hard to control. Whoops, that's a wall...


And please remember this is all in my mind. I wasn't actually swearing out loud when I saw that wasp.

A Tour of My Room

As you may have guessed by now, I'm a huge fantasy fiction nerd. I'm the girl that has to correct people when they call me a 'sir' or a 'he' in RPG games, because let's face it, how many girls actually play RPG games? And my room reflects this nerdiness, so I'm going to give you a few glimpses of it.

Also, I apologize in advanced, because the only camera I have is my phone, and it sucks.

I made these family crests in grade eleven for an English project. Each one is supposed to represent a major character from Macbeth (The one in the top right is Macbeth's) It took me about an hour or two each day to make them, so probably somewhere between seven and ten hours in total. I got perfect on the project, by the way.

This is one of my most prized possessions. And yes, it is a light. Isn't it beautiful? My parents finally agreed that I needed a new light after they took my old one down to replace the bulb and found a ton of dead bugs in it. They said they would spend $50, so I looked around for a while. I fell in love with this one, but it was eighty, so I paid for the last $30 of it. Since it doesn't exactly match the rest of the house, my parents are going to let me take it when I move.

(Also notice the Mad Hatter poster in the background. Everyone thinks it's creepy to have hanging over my bed...)

Now this is something to brag about. My dad made this shield when he was in high school, and had given it to his mom. When she moved into a care home, I claimed it as my own. It now hangs above my TV, and I'm still searching for a pair of swords to hang below it.

This is a bad quality picture, but here is a real beaver pelt top hat, with a scarf and a peacock feather. I wore it to school in grade twelve for Halloween, and I've kind of claimed it as my own now... I believe it used to belong to my great grandfather... Or maybe my great great grandfather. Either way, it's old.

A your of my room wouldn't be complete without a picture of my bookshelf. Please note that there is another shelf at the bottom of this picture that I wasn't able to get into the frame, and another shelf on a separate bookshelf. I also trim my collection down by a few books every once in a while, so there are about thirty or so book that I've donated. 

So there you are, a few of the best aspects of my room. There's more, so maybe I'll do this again later... Maybe when I have a better camera. 

My life in Seven Steps

On Thursday I had my final Speculative Fiction Writing class, and because of this we had a bit of a party. I made some sugar cookies, which my friends ate some of before class. I had five extra, but at some point between handing them out and the end of class, the five of them were taken and someone put a different cookie into my container... Anyway, the real entertaining part was a writing exercise we did. It was very quickly written and I'm kind of ashamed of it. But it was the message behind it that was interesting. Basically it was a sort of psychology exercise, where what you write tells something about your personality. I won't give too many details at the moment, in case anyone wants to try it out.

First you start off in a place of dense flora. Describe what you see, how you feel, what you do, ect.

I started off in a rainforest, with moist air that felt like sweat and a clear blue sky. Something above me hissed, but was gone before I could figure out that it was.

Next you find a road. Describe how you react, what it looks like...

I stumbled over the first couple rocks as they jutted from the ground, but after that the road became smooth, maintained and perfectly straight, with no obstructions for a long time.

You then find a key. Describe it, what you do with it...

The key I found was delicate, like something from an elvish fairy tale. The prongs were very skinny.

Then you find a cup. What does it look like, what do you do with it?

I found a crystal wine glass, with the stem so tin it looked like it would break the second I touched it.

Finally you come upon an obstacle. What is it? How do you get around it?

My obstacle was a large wall covered with ivy. When I brushed the leaves aside, I found a rock wall with a hole for a key. I simply insert the key and walk through. (I have no idea how this logic works, I was very rushed for this questions)

On the other side of the obstacle is some form of water. What is this body of water? What do you do?

It was a crystal clear pond, with tiny ripples that made it shimmer. I looked down at it as if it was a mirror, but didn't see my reflection.

Not far away is a shelter. What does it look like? What do you do?

It's a simply cabin. Inside looks like it's been recently vacated, so I begin looking around for some food. I find an apple and leave.

The final part is when you leave the forest, or wherever you are. What do you see? What do you do?

I leave the forest and come upon a clearing. About ten feet away is a sharp drop, and below the forest continues. I try to find a way down.

Now for the meanings:

The forest is your outlook on life

The road is the path you will take

The key is your knowledge

The cup is your love life

The obstacle is your problems and how you get around them\

The body of water is your sensuality

The shelter is your home life

The clearing is your death

How I interpreted my writing:

I'm kind of unsure about the forest part, just that there are unseen dangers?

My path starts off bumpy, but as I go along is smooths out and I can easily see and reach my life goals

My knowledge is kind of odd... I guess elves are smart...

I suppose the cup means that I'm afraid to touch love because it could break?

I like the obstacle part. I means I use my knowledge to get around any problems

My sensuality is the best. I have none.

When it comes to my home life, all I want is food. I don't care about companion ship, as long as there is food (classy, right?)

And finally, I will only accept death if it looks just as good as life. (I'm not suicidal! I swear! I have this ability to laugh at myself... And my utter lack of sensuality. Hehe. However, I don't want to lose my memory and mind with old age, so maybe that's what it means.)

I hope this provided some entertainment, and I really hope you tried it before reading the meanings. After it's just ruined.

The Facebook Community

While on Facebook, I generally post status updates that are meant to amuse people. I hate when people post statuses about being sad, or angry, so I like to kind of counteract them. So, here is a brief overview of my status updates and the amount of likes I've gotten for each.

The Hero of Time is Failing

We need help! Go here and vote for Link! As of 10:00 am on Monday, March 25th, he's barely in the lead. Voting ends at 2:00 pm this afternoon. And you're able to flood the vote, so vote as many times as you can until it tells you to cool off and locks you out of that one poll. And if you really want to help, vote for Bilbo Baggins so that Link doesn't have to go up against Harry Potter. Bilbo still needs about 1,000 votes before he can beat Harry though, so spam spam spam!

I'm also voting for Rand Al'Thor (although I like Aragorn better. The Wheel of Time is my favourite book series however, so Rand is getting my vote), Gandalf, Eowyn, Arya Stark (I REALLY want her to beat Hermione), Mulan, and Daenerys. Unfortunately, Mulan and Daenerys have no chance, and Arya is barely hanging in there.

Just Another List

So my good friend Vanessa, who also writes a blog, (You can find it by clicking on her picture at the side of my blog) wrote a list of 50 things about her. I found this pretty entertaining and informative, so I figured I would do one too!

1) You probably already know this, but my dream job is to become a writer. While in my spare time, and until I become world famous (kidding... maybe), I would love to own a coffee shop/book store. I know those won't earn me much money either, but hey, maybe together I can scratch by. If all else fails, I'll live in the coffee shop.

2) I've gone to two book signings for Brandon Sanderson, and I'm keeping my eye out for more signings by other authors

3) I'm a horrible procrastinator. Right now I should be studying for my History mid term that's tomorrow...

4) I have the amazing ability to grow my nails fairly long. I would say the average is about a centimetre long. They don't break often either, but when they do, it's normally into the skin, making it very painful.

5) I have terrible eyesight. I have to wear glasses if I want to do anything. In fact, I think by now I'm almost legally blind. My current glasses prescription is at about -6.75, and my eyesight has gotten worse. Legally blind is at -8.

6) I've been pretty much perfectly healthy my whole life. The only exception has been colds, of course. I've never had to stay home sick for more than a day, and I've never been to the hospital for an injury.

7) I'm very shy, but I'm trying to get over it. Once you get to know me, I'm very talkative. but I swear, I'm a nice person! I'm not trying to be aloof or snotty when I'm quiet, I'm just shy.

8) I'm proud that I took three years of Honours English and one year of Advanced Placement Literature in high school. I think the AP Lit was rather exclusive, because only thirty people got in for the whole year.

9) I'm really not a big fan of literature... Oddly enough. It's not that I'm sick of it, it's just that I find most of it very boring. I want to read for fun, not to have to pick through symbols and hidden meaning to understand what is going on.

10) My collection of books is over 150 now, which actually isn't all that big for a book worm, but I've also been donating and selling some in the past few years.

11) I was nearly published in my college's anthology of short fiction. Unfortunately, I didn't make the last cut.

12) I'm on Reddit! Look up Afyvarra if you want. I hang out mostly on r/books, r/zelda and r/WOT

13) I have way too much of a sweet tooth. I will go to a dollar store and buy three decent sized bags of candy, and it'll be gone in a week.

14) That being said, I have a candy chest. I try to keep it well stocked, but to do that I will probably run out of money in a month...

15) I'm very frugal. Most of the money I spend is on food. If you looked at a month worth of purchases, you will see a long list of cafeteria and Safeway.

16) I love European history, but I hate how uncreative they were with names. I'm 'studying' for my midterm, and I got confused by all the people named Philip, or Louis, or John. Then they add in the numbers, but then leave the numbers out sometimes in the textbook. It can get very confusing.

17) However, I like my history with a dash of salt... lots of salt. Meaning, I love reading historical fiction. In particular, Ariana Franklin's work, or Donna Gillespie's.

18) I also like salt. A lot. Especially as double salted dutch liquorish. And yes, that is a black liquorish.

19) I'm half Swedish! And no, that does not mean I'm tall, blond and very chesty. It means I'm pale as a ghost, with some mixture of ginger, blond and light brown hair.

20) Not particularly a fact about me, but my dad looked like a Weasley when he was younger. In fact, he saw a picture of Ron Weasley on my Facebook page, and thought it was a picture of himself.

21) I'm very good at staying up late. Unfortunately, I'm pretty bad at getting up early. It doesn't work so well with school or work...

22) I'm a Zelda fan! Which should be pretty obvious from my last posts. I love having friends over to play Zelda with me, and it's een more fun when we dress up. I'm always Link.

23) I love snakes. And yes, I have held one before. Unfortunately, my mom hates them, so I can't have one until I move out.

24) I know archery and fencing. I took fencing for about three years. I was never very good at it though... I only did archery for a year, but I think I was getting pretty decent. School got in the way though, and I haven't had the time to take it up again.

25) I also know how to read and write in Runic. My great grandfather was a master in runes, so we inherited some books from him. I started to learn them, and got interested. There are so many different forms that it's impossible to know the 'right' form. I used the most popula, called Elder Futhark, which is similar to what Tolkien used in his books. And for the record, it is NOT Dwarvish! I've had people telling me it's not runic, it's dwarvish. Idiots.

26) I love the Lord of the Rings movies, but I could not get through the books. I reached the halfway point of the second book and gave up. I did however love the Hobbit, and I'm disappointed that the movie was cut into three movies. However, they did a pretty decent job with it.

27) I may be a writer, but I hate writing essays. I was pretty good at them in grade 12, but since coming to College, I think I've exhausted any skill I might have had. I just want all academics to be over with so that I can focus on Creative Writing.

28) Technology hates me. Especially the internet. It's constantly going down, often at the most inconvenient of times. My ipad is always crashing and my phone drains it's battery so quickly.

29) My room is bright green. When I painted it I had to promise my parents that I would help them paint it a neutral colour when they wanted to move out.

30) I also have an Alice-in-Wonderland type of chandelier in my room. It's black and whimsical looking, and I love it. I'm taking it with me when I move out.

31) I cannot do laundry. I mean, I can work the washing machine and the dryer, but as soon as I turn the machine on, I completely forget I have clothes in there, and they sit for the whole day, therefore making them smell like dirty water.

32) I prefer to have short hair. I'm currently growing my hair out now so that I have something covering my neck and ears during the winter, but in the summer I plan to chop it all off again so it can be short enough for a faux hawk.

33) Let's go back to my room, because my room is awesome. I have a wooden shield hanging on my wall that my dad made in high school. It has a metal rampant lion on it.

34) I also have a map of Middle Earth with the path the Hobbits took in Lord of the Rings. Above that is my Hogarts Acceptance Letter, and above that is my timeline of the Triforce.

35) The first thing most people see when walking into my room is a large poster of the Mad Hatter hung right above my bed. People always wonder how I can sleep with that there, but no one seems to realize that I'm not craning my neck up to see what it right behind my head...

36) I have only sung twice in public (outside of elementary school choir), and that was at my friend's karaoke birthday party

37) When I do homework or play on my laptop, I prefer to sit on the ground than anything else. It can get uncomfortable, but as long as I stand up every few hours it's fine... And I'm pretty lazy...

38) I'm currently starting to freak out because the university I applied to still has not gotten back to me, and I need to apply for the program by the end of March...

39) I hate how people call it Game of Thrones, when the series is actually called A Song of Ice and Fire. However, I did just buy a Game of Thrones calendar, and I feel like I can call it that because it uses pictures from the show, which is called Game of thrones.

40) The farthest from home I have ever been is Europe. More specifically, Rome, Florence, Venice, Sweden and Paris. It was a good vacation.

41) When I buy a hard cover book, I prefer to take the sleeve off and leave the cover blank. It looks more like an old fashioned book, and in my opinion, makes it look much better.

42) I'm very competitive when it comes to video games. Except for Super Smash Brothers Brawl... Then I'm just surprised if I don't lose, since I have no idea how to play and I just button mash... But in Mario Kart...

43) I swore that I would never work at McDonalds because of how disgusting and greasy it is. Then I got a job at a Fish and Chips place where most of the food is deep fried. At least where I work everything is fresh and real.

44) I love writing poetry, but i don't really care for reading it. Especially when you really have to weed through the poem to figure out what it means... Then write an essay on it. I think my view on it's been corrupted because it's always been as homework, so I've never really enjoyed it when I've read it.

45) However, my favourite poem is Dulce Et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen. The first time I read this poem was in school, but it was just for fun, so maybe that's by I love it.

46) My favourite author is Brandon Sanderson, but Brent Weeks and Kristen Britain are close behind. However, my favourite book series is The Wheel of Time, which was written by Robert Jordan. Unfortunately, the rest of Jordan's work has never attracted me.

47) I am a huge fantasy fiction nerd. It's pretty much all I read, with the occasional exception for historical fiction, and even that can be fantasy related.

48) When I am looking for new books, I look at the cover first, then choose if it looks good enough to read the back. The thing is, with fantasy fiction, a lot of the time that actually helps. Most fantasy books have covers that depict a scene or an important part of the book. I hate how teen fiction will, for example, have a picture of an apple, then be all about some wimpy vampire. It has no relation and is never mentioned in the book, so what is the point?

49) I played soccer for about eight years. Then I couldn't find a team anywhere even close to where I live, so I had to give it up for a year. After that I just haven't had the time or motivation to find a new team. I would like to go back though.

50) And final one! I wish I had saved something super cool, but as it is, I've run out of steam. Anyway, when someone takes a picture of me with flash, there's a good chance that my skin will look like it's glowing. Yeah, that's the Swedish skin...

Happy (Almost) New Year

((Oh man, I completely forgot about the blog on Friday. I haven't been feeling well today, so I'm just going to do another list. I know it's tacky, but I figure with New Years coming, I'll do a summary of my year.))

2012: Friends and Enemies
Did you meet any new friends this year? I made a few friends at college, but I wouldn't call them close friends.
Did you hate anyone? Nah, I'm a pretty easy going person; I don't hate people often.
Did you lose any friends? I may have drifted away from a few, which is sad, but it happens.

Did you have a cake? I had the best cake. It had Pikachu, Squirtle and Charzard on it.
Did you get any presents? Many, and they were all wonderful.

Did you change at all this year? Probably, but that would be based on the opinion of others.
Did you change your style? I started growing my hair longer... Other than that, I think my style is pretty much the same.
Were you in school? Of course, except during the summer, when I was working.
Did you get good grades? I got more B's than A's, but not too bad.
Did you drive? Yes... Badly... And not very often. But I did get my L early this year.

Did you go on any vacations? A few small things, but other than that, nothing big.

Was 2012 a good year? Yeah, nothing too special, but I figure every year has been a good year.
Do you think 2013 will top 2012? Hard to say. I'll be changing universities, hopefully getting a second job, and it doesn't look like my grandma will last much longer after the New Year. However, I think the good will outweigh the bad.
Best thing that happened in 2012? Hmm, that's a hard one. I turned 19, so that was pretty cool. I'm allowed to legally drink, but I don't do it often, and never enough to get drunk.

Stayed up til sunrise? Surprisingly, no. I've been pretty good about going to bed at a decent time.
Cried over the silliest thing? I had a bit of a melt down during my first week of school, when my parents left me home alone with a crazy dog who kept me up until two in the morning on a school night...

Spent most of your money on food? Hehe, yeah... Although I think Christmas shopping balanced it out.
Gotten sick? I was sick twice within about 30 days...

Best. Dinner. Ever.

I'm just about done this semester, and my brain has decided to turn off, right before finals. So there's not going to be anything special today. In fact, I'm going to talk about something completely ridiculous.

My friend's mom's spaghetti.

It is the best food I have ever had, or at least, the best pasta. I have no idea how she makes it, but it's pretty much the only time I don't complain about eating spaghetti. In the sauce is vegetables, and normally I would find this disgusting (I'm not a big fan of mushy vegetables) But when it's smothering in the tomato sauce, or whatever it is, it tastes pretty damned good.

Dang, now I'm hungry...

Ooh! And then she serves it with garlic bread. And the garlic bread is amazing too.

Okay, I need food now.

You Know You've Been Wearing Glasses Too Long When...

So, I'm super busy with school, so it looks like I'll be posting another quick list.

1) Even in your dreams you're wearing glasses
Or you vision is fuzzy. This happens more often than you would think. From the dreams I can remember, recent ones at least, most of the time my vision is fuzzy, and once in a while I'll be aware that I'm wearing glasses.

2) You don't even notice when your glasses need cleaning
Now, I only really clean my glasses once a week, sometimes only once every two weeks. So when I take them off, it's surprising how dirty they are. In fact, I seem to have permanent little dots on them. They look like water marks, but they don't come off easily, although they seem to be fading now.

3) When you automatically think that someone has to take their glasses off to rub their eyes in a book
I was reading Harry Potter several months ago, and when I got to the part that Hagrid was wiping tears from his eyes, I automatically thought of him taking his glasses off first. No matter what, I could not get that image out of my head.

4) You've actually written a poem (or story, blog, status, ect.) about what things look like without glasses
As I mentioned in my previous post, I've written a poem about what the moon and my room look like without my glasses.

5) You always carry around a spare pair of glasses, in case something happens to your regular pair
This is actually a very reasonable fear, especially if your eyes are as bad as mine. People are always asking me why I have glasses in my glasses case though... Sounds like a pretty stupid question, right?

You May Just Be A Writer When...

I've been meaning to make a list like this for a while, but things just kept getting in the way. Now that my muse has come back and I don't have any writing to post at the moment, I figured now would be a good time to make the list.

1) You silently narrate your whole life, pretending that it could be interesting enough for a novel.
     I know it sounds like I'm crazy, but for someone who leads a very boring life, it makes each day a little more fun. Most people would call it daydreaming, and a majority of the time it leads to daydreaming, but what I am talking about here is less dreaming and more thinking... If that makes sense. Instead of imagining images, I imagine words.

2) You are ridiculously attached to your first notebook, despite the fact that your first attempts at writing are pretty bad.
     My first note book is a skinny black thing. My grandma gave it to me, even though she didn't know about my dreams of becoming a writer. Actually, at that point I had barely realized the dream either. After writing in the book for a while, I found that I really enjoyed it, and was already tweaking what I had written.

3) You write a blog.
     I know that a lot of people who have no intention of becoming a writer also write blogs, but I've also noticed that the few blogs I read are sporadic and updated only once a week, if even that. I feel that a true writer is dedicated to their blog and will update it often and dutifully. they will also talk almost exclusively about writing, which I realize is probably wearing on you guys.

4) You love to read.
     It's a common known fact that all writers are also readers. I admit, I'm a slow reader, but it's because I hate rushing through a book. I often find myself skipping a paragraph ahead because I'm excited to see what happens, but as soon as I do that, I feel like I've missed something important, and have to re-read the whole page. In other words, I hate to miss even a single word. Despite this though, or maybe because of it, I have a bookcase full of books (Around 150, last time I counted) They are organized in alphabetical order by last name, and are actually starting to spill onto my second book case.

5) You are excited to wait in line for four hours just to see your favourite author for four minutes.
     Best day of my life. I met one of my favourite authors, Brandon Sanderson. I stood in line for about three, maybe four hours... Or maybe it just seemed like that long, honestly I wasn't paying attention to the time. Either way, I got a picture with him, which still makes me smile. I was even an hour late for my friend's birthday party, but she completely understood, as she is as devoted to photography as I am to reading and writing.

6) You keep a stash of sharpened pencils next to your bed.
     I can't even count the amount of times I've turned my light back on so that I could write something down while in bed. Since I'm always kept awake at night thinking, it's the best time to come up with new ideas. Every once in a while I'll even come up with a poem. One night I was getting annoyed by some light that was coming through my blinds. They fell on my bedroom door and my closet door, so I wrote a poem about them, along with the moon and the shadow that forms between my bookcase and the wall. The whole poem was through my perspective when I'm not wearing my glasses. I handed it in as one of my poems for my poetry class last year, and my teacher said it was amazing and must have taken me forever to write... Not to brag or anything...

7) You actively try and recruit people to read the books you like.
     As I am doing with the list of books at the bottom of the page... But yeah, I've gotten two of my friends reading Wheel of Time... Or at least one who is a fan, and one who has bought the first book. Unfortunately, most of my friends are either not very into reading, or they read the teen fiction stuff that I hate.

8) You understand and hate Gary and Mary Sues.
     The term Gary Sue and Mary Sue refers to a perfect character. A lot of people call the characters in Twilight Gary and Mary Sues, because it's obvious that the two male characters were made for girls to fall in love with, and the female character was made for girls to wish to be her. Gary and Mary Sues normally try to please everyone, they're stunning to the point of being inhuman (even if they are human) or they have flaws that are far too cliché or ironic for the book (Ex. Bella's clumsiness)

9) Every once in a while you get a good idea for an essay...
     Then you realize that you're being crazy and write a story instead. This happened mostly when I was in high school, and barely had to write essays. Now that I'm in college, I've written more essays in one semester than I care to write in a year. And I still have three more to go, not including finals or other smaller projects and assignments.

10) Chat speak annoys the hell out of you.
     I cannot even force myself to write it. I look back at my sentence, and start to edit it using chat speak grammar. I start thinking 'what is the substitute for l? Is it 1? Looks close enough. But wait, that doesn't make the word shorter, that's the point of chatspeak, right? Okay, how do I make the word shorter? Take out a vowel? No, then you can't understand... Hell, I don't understand it anyway, I give up.' Yeah, trying to write in chatspeak takes me much longer than just writing every work out properly, even it is means going back to correct spelling errors.

Character Conversation

Ugh, okay, so I have another nasty cold. It's not as bad as it was yesterday, but after school today, my headache is back. Because of this, I'm just going to post something pre-written. This is something I did for fun a few months ago. It's called a character Conversation. Basically it's like an interview between me an a character. It helps to develop them, because it makes you ask basics questions such as name, age, rank, appearance, heritage, and so on. I never actually finished this one, but I'm not in the mood to do so now. Maybe later...
Anyway, the bold would be my questions, the regular font is the character's reply.

I’ll start off with very basic questions. First, what is your full name?

I am Tanlar Stanegin, first and only son of Eiod Stanegin, heir to the Stanegin name.

Very detailed. Any middle name?

We do not have middle names where I come from.

And where is that?

I live in the great land of Ro Amir, in the Province of Troth, over which my father rules.

So your father is the king?

Oh no, just a Lord. But our lands are very extensive; we might as well be considered royalty.

And what about you? Will you take over your father’s place?

In time. For now I am still learning and training. When I come of age I will replace him.

And how old are you now?

I have lived through seventeen summers.

So you’re seventeen? How old must you be to take over as Lord?

Twenty one, unless my father passes before then.

And do you have any siblings who will contend for the title?

I only have my younger sister.

My father, of course. The brown hair and brown eyes run in the Stanegin bloodline. Through the males at least.

Yes, I have been trained since the day I could walk. I have quite the body for the women to swoon over.

What else have you learned from your training?

I can read and write as well as any scribe, and my dancing is nothing to be ashamed of. I am the best fighter in the castle and my aim with a bow is unmatched.

Yes, I can see the modesty now… You said you live in a castle? What is it called?

Stonehold, so called because of the two mountains that back it.

Impressive. It must be very well guarded then.

No one has ever taken it.

No one? Wow. Has anyone ever tried?

Of course. People are still trying. In fact, there is a Lord to the south who has been trying to take our land for years now.

The Perfect Pet

Ugh, my cold is coming back, and because of this, I'm not in the mood to write. So here is a fun poem I wrote a few years ago:

Would you like to make a bet?

That I can find the perfect pet?

It cannot shed

Or steal the bed.

Digging is unacceptable,

As is begging under the table.

A dog won’t due,

Whether it’s old or new.

A cat, perhaps,

Until it snaps.

Besides, they’re cranky when they’re old,

And far too bold.

A bird is tame,

But kind of lame.

A ferret is crazy,

A fish is lazy.

The dinosaurs are all dead,

Unicorns are fake, or so it’s said.

Hippos are fat

Beavers are better as a hat

Monkeys want hugs, and maybe more,

Snowballs leave wet spots on the floor.

Tigers would be cool to own

But you cannot leave them home alone.

Platypuses, or Platypi,

Are too expensive to buy.

Dust bunnies have their adorees,

Unfortunately, they cause allergies.

Pandas eat bamboo,

But rarely know kung fu.

Fish are tiny,

Humans are whiny.

Anteaters have a strange diet,

Frogs are never quiet.

Bugs are disgusting,

Raccoons are far from trusting.

Porcupines are prickly,

Squirrels are finicky.

Chickens taste delicious,

Snakes look suspicious.

Llamas like to spit,

And boy, I don’t want to be hit.

Horses are hard to ride,

The last time I tried, I nearly died.

Hermit crabs are a bunch of loners,

And all of them are cranky home owners.

Zebras can’t decide if they’re black or white,

But at least they rarely fight.

Kangaroos you must worry about,

For their kicks always land, without a doubt.

Worms make great bait,

But oh, what a horrible fate.

Giraffes have necks to break through the roof,

The hole in mine is certainly proof.

Elephants are too big for the house,

Maybe you should just stick with a mouse.

Ostriches are too fast to catch

And take way too long to hatch.

Moles are vicious when I try to pet them,

Maybe it’s because they have only have a brain stem.

A group of crows is called a murder.

I don’t want to be called the ‘bird herder’

So after searching far and wide,

I found a pet that is known worldwide.

It comes in colours red, green and blue,

Though can never be found confined in a zoo.

This pet needs little attention

And is great at burglar prevention.

All it needs for a bed is a sock,

And yes, I am talking about a rock.
